Lothamer Manufacturing follows a kitbash created by Gordon Oregard. When young, we read issues of Model Railroader multiple times dreaming of one day creating our own big layout.
Another old favorite was Earl Smallshaw's Middletown & Mystic Mines Railroad. Earl packed his mid-sized layout with character. A video of Earl's layout can be found here.
